Marysville suffered greatly during the 2009 Black Saturday Bushfires, amongst Australia’s all time worst natural disasters. Of 400 buildings in the town, only 14 were left standing. Marysville’s recovery since the devastating event is remarkable, and tourism is a key factor in helping the area continue to recover.
