Being one of the most intelligent breeds, they need something to keep their mind occupied all day – This is why they thrive from having a job to do. This breed needs plenty of mental and physical exercise and will reward you by being a wonderful and happy pet. They are easily trained; however need a strong pack leader due to their high dominance level, as they can be dog aggressive if they’re allowed to be pack leader. By doing so, they will be absolutely loyal and obedient to their master and if they are well balanced, are trustworthy with children. Problems can and will arise with owners who do not provide the right exercise regime and extensively work with their dog. They are very easy to groom as their shorthaired, weather-resistant coat only tends to shed once or twice per year and just needs a brush with a firm bristle and bath when required. This breed is prone to hip dysplasia, Progressive Retinal Atrophy and in the Merle-Coloured dogs, deafness. They make excellent jogging companions but make sure they’re beside or behind you to re-enforce that the human is alpha. These animals have exceptional stamina and really enjoy having activities to do. Keep their mind and body occupied with lots of room to roam in a nice large yard, and you’ll have a wonderful, loyal, loving family pet.
